How to Avoid Burnout in Your Wellness Journey

Keeping fitness as a priority in your life speaks volumes on how you perceive your health and general well-being. However, as the year goes on and you may notice a decline in your activity or results. Sometimes you may have all the intentions of staying true to your fitness regimen, but you may come across a time where you feel stagnant or less progressive. Don’t fret, this change is completely normal and should be embraced, as with change, comes great progress! If you feel a burnout looming over your shoulder here are a few tips on what you can do to combat it, or avoid it all together!

Try something new

Here in the modern day world, people tend to be creatures of habit. Habit is familiar and comfortable, however habit can also be counterproductive. Habit leaves no real room to grow, and when it comes to your health and wellness, growth is a must! Make it a point to go outside of your regular routine at least once a month. There are plenty of resources available at your fingertips —dare you look. Try a group fitness class, pilates or yoga. Whatever you decide, just make it interesting! When your body becomes accustomed to your workout regimen, it becomes harder to yield results, thus leaving you frustrated and unmotivated. Add variety by challenging yourself to try new forms of exercise as much as possible.

While you are on the course of trying new things, this goes for the kitchen as well! More often than not, people get in the habit of eating the same “healthy” foods over and over until they get bored and abandon all their efforts. A crash of this nature leads to a path of binge eating and loads of guilt shortly after. To avoid this, all you have to do is allow creativity to guide you and literally spice up what you’re cooking! Look for new recipes online or trade recipes with a friend and make it a point to incorporate one new healthy food into your diet regularly. Eating healthy does not have to be boring or mundane, all you need is consistency and the effort to find what your body really needs!

 

Add a buddy

Working out alone can provide peace of mind while allowing you to decompress and grind it out, however adding a friend can be a great way to release and stay on task as well! A workout buddy will be there to assist you in reaching the common goal you both share —which is to stay fit. They will be there to cheer on your success and you will be there to do the same. There is something about a group effort that really makes efforts soar.

If you don’t have someone available to work out with you, consider enrolling in a group fitness class. This is a great way to meet people that have common interests and it creates a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. You can find plenty of group classes at the gym that range from water aerobics, spin, yoga, and more. If you are a jogger, look for local running clubs in your area, lace app your sneakers and join them!

As you can see, there are many options available to keep your feet moving and your heart rate up! Don’t let the feeling of complacency force you into inactivity as this is the prime time to remain focused and active. If you feel yourself going into the burnout zone, implement one of these practices immediately and watch your zest for health and wellness return abundantly!
